Abstract

This study investigates the diagnosis of the origins of the words akupunktur, aposteriori, dozer and fagot. To this end, primarily various Turkish dictionaries have been examined regarding these words, and what is written about their origins has been compared. Following this, diverse origins and semantics of these words across multiple Turkish dictionaries have been provided. Moreover, their corresponding semantics in the required non-Turkish dictionaries have been explored. Besides, pronunciations of the given words in various languages have been provided and compared with their correspondings in Turkish. Historical data have been gathered depending on whether the words are found in the dictionaries. Therefore, it has been aimed to make a precise diagnosis of the languages from which the words akupunktur, aposteriori, dozer and fagot have been transferred to Turkish language through the help of historical, semantics and phonetics data in the Turkish and non-Turkish resources. It has been observed that some Turkish dictionaries provide different origins for the words akupunktur, aposteriori, dozer and fagot whereas some other dictionaries have reached an agreement. It has been concluded that our opinion of the origins overlaps with that of some dictionaries whereas it does not with that of some others. The reasons for this have been explicated based on historical, phonetics and semantics data.
