Abstract

In this study, the necessity reasons and importance of guidance services which is a professional help and support service and the problems that hinder this system are emphasized. Guidance services are considered some of the world when Turkey began late. It began to take its place in the Turkish education system in the 1950s and the importance and necessity of guidance services in education councils and development plans were emphasized. For the first time, guidance services were established in schools in the 1970s and in the 1980s, related departments were opened in the universities and specialist training was started for the field. Since the 1990s, discussion platforms have been established by organizing for field development and problems. Despite these developments, guidance services still remain makeshift in the Turkish education system and cannot be placed on a healthy, permanent and productive basis. The most important problems are; the lack of psychological counselors at all schools and at school level, and even some schools, lack of working conditions, inadequacies, lack of knowledge and awareness of school administrators and teachers, and inadequate and ineffective working styles. . These and similar problems make the guidance system inefficient and ineffective. Because guidance services are activities that can be effective with the common and conscious and self-sacrificing work of all relevant units and personnel. If we compare this to the operation of a gear wheel, how a gear does not perform its function, if it disrupts its function, the units that should be assigned in the guidance system should work individually without fail, otherwise the system will not function and cannot function. In the meantime, the quality of education is negatively affected as guidance services are still not established in more than 50 years. It is a fact that an education system in which guidance services are not effective and efficient can never be decisive and effective in the future of the country. As soon as possible, the system should be reviewed in detail, problems should be identified and resolved individually and activated.
