Abstract

During the foundation of the Ottoman Empire, the roads and the route of conquest were an important field of study. The reason for which each point of this route is chosen is undoubtedly a problematic in itself. In this sense, the route determined by the Ottoman administration on the way to the Balkan geography (Thrace / Europe), which has been turned since the establishment, should be examined with each stop. While the city of Izmit and its vicinity has been an important target for the Ottoman Empire from the very beginning, it is planned that what lies behind it will be at the center of the conquest road that will reach the Balkans and then Istanbul. Therefore, it will be seen that İzmir and its environs are constantly in the middle of this struggle in the first years of the establishment. This study was written with a claim centered on conquest routes and strategic elements as an important point in historical geography studies. In this sense, the importance of Izmit in Iznik-Izmit-Istanbul line and the exit point to the Balkans will be tried to be revealed in the motives of the establishment of the Ottoman Empire. At this point, the concepts of time, adventure and path were taken to the center.
