Abstract

Art movements formed an important basis in the world of art and architecture in the historical process. One of these movements is the Art Nouveau style. Art Nouveau has a unique structure like every art style. It started in England and spread in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Spain. Artists in England were disturbed by the decorations that were produced with machines and bought as a result of the decline in handicrafts after the industrial revolution. Thus, cheap goods were replaced by hand workmanship. The inspiration for the style is nature. It is effective in many interdisciplinary fields and is best observed in the field of architecture. Among the major architectural representatives of the movement are Victor Horta, Henry Van De Velde, Gaudi, Otto Wagner and Raimondo D’Aronco. This style attracted attention to the material and brought innovation in subjects such as ornament, pattern and color. Iron and glass were preferred as materials. Art Nouveau in Istanbul has been applied in venues designed by western artists by entering from Beyoğlu district. The Art Nouveau Movement and the works in Beyoğlu were handled and evaluated over the Markiz Patisserie in this study.
