DETERMINATION OF ELECTIVE COURSE SELECTION BY DEMATEL-PROMETHEE METHODS

Abstract

Course selection is one of the most important problems that students must decide in their education life. With this study, it was aimed to choose the most appropriate course for the students in accordance with the determined criteria of the elective courses taught in both fall and spring semesters and to find the criteria that affect this choice. The study was carried out on 55 students in total, 32 girls and 23 boys studying in Cumhuriyet University Yıldızeli Vocational School Public Relations and Promotion program during the fall and spring semesters of 2017-2018 academic year. In the study, the DEMATEL method was used for criterion weighting, and the PROMETHEE method was used because it is one of the preferred methods for ordering alternatives. The selection of the most appropriate elective course was evaluated with the PROMETHEE method. According to the results of the analysis, the Protocol Management elective course was chosen according to the academic career criteria of the teacher who gave the course. In the Spring semester, the Presentation Techniques elective course was selected according to the course content being interesting and the recommendation of friends. The results are visualized on the charts using the GAIA plane for the interaction diagrams and the optimal selection of alternatives for the interaction.
