Abstract

Nowadays, antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy are two of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders handbook) diagnoses which are frequently used interchangeably. Antisocial personality disorder is mostly related to intervention in the areas of individual freedom, whereas the content of psychopathy is even wider. Antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy are the concepts presented by the scientists working in the field of psychology that emerged as science in the modern period. It can be said that these concepts gradually transformed into common sense knowledge and even social representations in society life. Social representations that emerged as a synthesis of scientific and common sense knowledge against the unknown are commonly used in society. This study aims to eliminate the concept confusion between antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy in the context of the social representations theory of Serge Moscovici.
