Abstract

Nedîm, attracts attention with his distinctive style and novelties to Ottoman poetry in 18th century. Nedîm style, partially opened the new doors within the classical structure of Ottoman poetry. It’s a matter of debate if Nedîm’s style, which has been made distinguished name for his distinctive style, has been reflected on each of his poem or not. Ottoman poets wrote many poems for the purpose of expressing their high esteem to Prophet Mohammad. Naat is the leading type of Prophet Mohammad’s narratives and praises. Ottoman poets tried to reveal the best examples of naat type by memorializing the Islamic Prophet in their qasides (eulogium). There is only one naat in Nedîm’s Divan. In this article, aforementioned naat of Nedîm rhymed with “Habib-i Kibriyâ” will be reviewed; and will be tried to be identified whether the phrase structures used in naats and typical characteristics salient in almost all naats remained at Nedîm’s aforesaid qaside; and whether he has reflected his distinctive style on his naat or not.
