Abstract
Dünyada önemli sayıdaki toplumda namus kavramının ortak paydası; kadın, kadın cinselliği, çoğu zaman bekaret anlamına gelen cinsel saflık ve hatta kadın cinselliğinin denetlenmesi olarak görülmektedir. Namus kavramının bir taraftan dürüstlük diğer taraftan da kadın ve onun cinselliği ile eş değer tutulması, erkeğe atfedilen namus ile kadına atfedilen namusun farklı yorumlanması içinde bulunduğumuz toplumun önemli sorunlarından biridir. Erkeklerin genellikle toplum tarafından aktif roller üstlenmeleri istenirken, kadınlarda örf ve adetlere uygun davranmaları ve daha pasif bir yaşam sürmeleri beklenmektedir. Toplum tarafından kadınlar adeta kamusal alandan dışlanmakta ve özel alanda yaşamlarını sürdürmeleri istenmektedir. Günümüzde namus kavramı, kadına ilişkin namus anlayışı, namus temelli şiddet ve namus adına işlenen cinayetler giderek daha çok tartışılır hale gelse de konuyla ilgili bilimsel araştırmalar sınırlı sayıdadır. Bu derlemede namus kavramı irdelenerek, kadına ilişkin namus anlayışını etkileyen faktörler ile bu konuda yapılan çalışmalar ele alınmıştır.

Abstract
The common stake in the concept of honor in a significant number of societies around the world have seen as women, women's sexuality, sexual purity that often means virginity, and even the control of women’s sexuality. Honesty from the one side of the concept of honor and the woman and her sexuality on the other side to be kept equal, different interpretation of the honor attributed to the man and the woman are one of the important problems of the society we are in. While men are often expected to assume an active role, women are expected to behave appropriately in customs and to live a more passive life by community. By society, women are supposed to be excluded from the public sphere and continue their private sphere life. Nowadays, although the concept of honor, understanding of honor related to women, violence based on honor and murders committed in the name of honor become more and more controversial, scientific researches related to this issue are limited. In this review, the concept of honor is examined and the factors affecting the understanding of honor related to women and the studies made in this issue are discussed.
