Abstract
Bu araştırmanın amacı sanatın tarihsel sürecinde portre ve otoportrenin gelişimini öğrenmektir. Ayrıca sanatın değişen süreçlerinde portrenin seramik sanatındaki farklılıklarını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Araştırmaya konu olabilecek sanatçılardan Claude Monet ve Pablo Picasso’nun eserleri modern portre sanatının örnekleri arasında yer aldıkları için seçilmiştir. Bununla birlikte modern ve postmodern seramik sanatına katkı sağlayan Tip Toland’ın eser analizlerine yer verilmiştir. Böylece farklı süreçlerde portreyi ele alan sanatçıların eserleri karşılaştırma yapılarak; onların birbirlerinden ayrılan ve ortak yönleri ortaya çıkarılacaktır. Araştırmanın problemleri şu şekildedir: Portre ve otoportrenin farklılıkları nelerdir? Modernizm ve postmodernizmde portre sanatının gelişimi nasıl olmuştur? Malzemenin değişmesi portre sanatını nasıl etkilemiştir? Antik Yunan ve Roma sanatlarında portrenin gelişimi nasıl ilerlemiştir? Sanatçılar hangi durumlarda portreye eğilmişlerdir? Bu sorularla birlikte portrenin geçmiş ve güncel tarihi hakkında bilgi sahibi olunacağı umulmaktadır.

Abstract
The aim of this research is to learn the development of portrait and self-portrait in the historical process of art. In addition, it is to reveal the differences of portrait in ceramic art in the changing processes of art. The works of Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso, who can be the subject of the research, were chosen because they are among the examples of modern portrait art. In addition, the work analysis of Tip Toland, who contributed to modern and postmodern ceramic art, is included. Thus, by comparing the works of the artists who deal with the portrait in different processes; their differences and common aspects will be revealed. The problems of the research are as follows: What are the differences between portrait and self-portrait? How has the development of portrait art in modernism and postmodernism been? How did the change of material affect the art of portraiture? How did the development of the portrait progress in the ancient Greek and Roman arts? In what situations did the artists lean towards the portrait? It is hoped that with these questions, you will be informed about the past and current history of the portrait.
