Abstract
Sanatçılar bireysel birikimlerin yanı sıra yetiştirildikleri dönem içerisinde toplumun oluşturduğu düşünce ve duyuş biçimini kültür aracılığı ile sanat eserleri üzerinden göstermektedirler. Toplumlar zaman içerisinde kültürel değerleri alışkanlıklara, alışkanlıkları ise yeni yöntemlere dönüştürerek nesiller üzerinden aktarırlar. Kültürel ögelerin bugün işlevsel olarak kullanılmasının yanı sıra güncel sanat içerisinde sanatçıların sıklıkla sanat eserlerinde kültür ögelerine yer verdikleri gözlemlenmiştir. Bisa Butler da sanat formunu oluştururken kültürel ögelerden faydalanır. Butler, Afrika kökenli Amerikalı bir sanatçı olarak kültürlerinin bir parçası olan kapitone tekniğini, Afrika’ya özgü canlı renkleri, parlak kumaşları, dikiş tekniklerini, kimliği belli olmayan kişilere ait fotoğraf arşivlerini, Afrikalı insanların geçmiş zamandaki hikâyeleri üzerinden geleneksel bir yöntem olan kapitone tekniğini kullanarak sanat eserlerini oluşturmaktadır. Aynı zaman da sosyolojik bir olgu olan Afrika toplumunun özgürlüklerinin kısıtlandığı, ötekileştirildiği, görmezden gelindiği bazı kavramları Bisa Butler sanat eseri üzerinden eleştirerek tekrardan ele almaktadır. Butler’ın sanat eserinde tekstil malzemesi kullanımı üzerine betimsel bir durum tespiti yapılmış, bu amaç doğrultusunda literatür taraması yapılmıştır. Bisa Butler’ın çalışmalarında, tekstil malzemelerinden kumaşı nasıl ele aldığı, kapitone tekniği ile birlikte oluşturduğu sanatsal form Butler’ın çalışmaları üzerinden incelenmiş ve de yorumlanmıştır.

As an Africa-American artist, Butler uses the quilting technique, which is a part of their culture, the vivid African colors, bright fabrics, sewing techniques, photographic archives of unkown people, and the quilting technique, which is a traditional method, based on the stories of African people in the past. Constitutes his works. At the same time, Bisa Butler criticizes some concepts in which the freedoms of African society, which is a sociological phenomenon, are restricted, marginalized and ignored, by criticizing it again. A descriptive situation determination was made on the use of textile materials in Butler’s work of art, and a literature review was made for this purpose. In Bisa Butler’s Works, how she handles fabric from textile materials and the artistic form she created together with the quilting technique have been examined and interpreted through Butler’s works.
