Abstract
Yararlı Sanat Birliği (Asociacion de Arte Util) 2011’de Kübalı sanatçı Tania Bruguera’nın öncülük ettiği, sanatçı ve kurumların katılımı ile vücut bulmuş ve sanatın sosyal değişim alanında herhangi bir alet gibi faydalı olabileceğini öngören bir kuruluştur. Müzelerin ve galerilerin yeniden yapılandırılarak insani programları destekleyen okul, kütüphane, yüzme havuzu gibi kentsel yapılara benzer şekilde düzenlenmesi gerektiği inancındadırlar. Jamaika asıllı ABD’li sanatçı Simone Leigh seramik, heykel, performans ve sosyal uygulama projeleri alanlarında işler yapan bir çağdaş sanatçıdır. 2022 Venedik Bienali’nde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Pavyonunu düzenlemek ve temsil etmek üzere yetkili kurul tarafından seçilmiş olup bu konuda siyahi kadın kimliğiyle ilk olma özelliği taşımaktadır. Sanatçı 2016 yılında ‘The Waiting Room’[1] adlı sosyal uygulama projesini üretmiştir.
Bu çalışmada Simone Leigh’nin `The Waiting Room` adlı sosyal uygulama projesi, ‘Yararlı Sanat’ kavramı bağlamında tartışılarak çalışmanın sosyal yararları araştırılacaktır.

Abstract
The Association for the Useful Arts (Asociacion de Arte Util) is an organization led by Cuban artist Tania Bruguera in 2011, embodied with the participation of artists and institutions, and anticipating that art can be useful as any tool in the field of social change. They believe that museums and galleries should be restructured and organized in a way similar to urban structures such as schools, libraries, swimming pools that support humanitarian programs. Jamaican-American artist Simone Leigh is a contemporary artist working in the fields of ceramics, sculpture, performance and social practice projects. She was chosen by the authorized committee to organize and represent the United States Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale, and she is the first with her black female identity. In 2016, the artist produced the social application project called 'The Waiting Room'.
In this study, Simone Leigh's social practice project named 'The Waiting Room' will be discussed in the context of the concept of 'Useful Art' and the social benefits of the work will be investigated.
