Abstract
Ud, tarih boyunca birçok medeniyetlerin ve kültürlerin ortak özelliklerini temsil etmiş, büyük icracıların ortaya çıkmasına ve bu icracıların birbirileri ile olan ortak müzik zevki, estetiği ve icracılığın ise kesiştiği bir sanat kolu olmuştur. Şerif Muhiddin Targan (Haydar), Bağdat’da kurmuş olduğu ve tam 12 yıl aralıksız sürdürdüğü başta Ud olmak üzere makam (teori) , ses sistemi, repertuar ve tavır eğitimiyle bıraktığı etki, İstanbul’dan Bağdat’a, oradan tüm orta doğuya ve ilgili diğer tüm coğrafyalara büyük etki ve katkı sağlamıştır. Şerif Muhiddin Targan, gerek ekol, gerek uslûp-tavır ve gerekse Ud için özel eser ve etütler besteleme konusunda içinde bulunduğu ve etki alanında olduğu tüm bu coğrafyalarda ekol olmuştur. Ud’un icra edildiği her yerde, icracılar, ortak kültürle ait olan ses siteminden hareketle, şiir ve edebiyattan beslenerek kendi müzikal estetiklerini yaratmışlardır. Başta Targan olmak üzere en önemli Ud icracılarının etki ve taklit edilmeleri araştırma ve analiz edilmeleri hâlâ sürmektedir. Bu çalışmada başta Ud’un çıkış yeri, tarihi, biçimsel gelişimi ve icracısı olmak üzere kısa biyografi ve bu bilgiler ışığında Şerif Muhiddin Targan’ın, uşşak makamındaki taksimi üzerinden analiz yapılarak, icrayı belirleyen makamsal ve müzikal unsurların tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır.

Abstract
Throughout history, the oud has served as a medium reflecting the shared characteristics of numerous civilizations and cultures. It has given rise to great performers whose musical tastes, aesthetics, and performance styles intersected and enriched one another. Şerif Muhiddin Targan (Haydar) is among these influential figures. Through the school he established in Baghdad—where he taught for twelve uninterrupted years—he left a profound impact on the study of the oud, makam (theory), tonal systems, repertoire, and performance style. His influence spread from Istanbul to Baghdad and extended across the entire Middle East and related geographies.
Şerif Muhiddin Targan became an eminent figure—an “ekol”—in every region touched by his work, particularly through his distinctive style, performance approach, and his original compositions and études for the oud. Wherever the oud is performed, musicians, drawing upon a shared sonic tradition and nourished by poetry and literature, have crafted their own musical aesthetics. The influence and imitation of leading oud performers—especially Targan—continue to be studied and analyzed today. This study aims to identify the makamic and musical elements shaping performance by briefly examining the origins of the oud, its history, structural development, and key performers, followed by an analytical study of Şerif Muhiddin Targan’s taksim in the Uşşak makam in light of this background.
