Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study; is to examine the unsportsmanlike behaviors, faced by the karate referees, behaviours of violently appealing to the referee's decisions and to threaten the referee; in terms of age, gender and classification. It is not possible for the referee to perform his duty properly under high pressure and stress caused by unsportsmanlike behavior. Referees must be able to detect unsportsmanlike behaviors and be able to cope with these behaviors in order to manage the games according to the rules. In the research, scanning model and purposeful sampling method were used. The sample is made up of 112 karate referees. "Personal Information Form" and "Unsporting Behavior Questionnaire" were used as data collection tools. The percentage (%) and frequency (f) methods were used to determine the age, gender and classification characteristics of the referees, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test was used to determine the distribution of the data. After understanding the suitability of the data for non-parametric test conditions, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to determine significant differences. In this context, the realization of the objection to the referee's decision and threats to the referee in karate sport does not indicate statistically significant difference according to the age and gender of the referee. Likewise, the objection to the referee does not differ significantly from the referee class, but the threat behavior differs significantly from the referee class.
