Abstract

Abstract

In this article, the conflict that we read in Sezai Karakoç’s stories between the city and the country has been examined. This contrast has been discussed since the 18th century and has also been reverberated into literature, especially with the influence of romanticism the country has become a phenomenon which was described as a purifying alternative to the destructive effects of the modern city. This contrast which has seen interest in our literature takes considerable place in the subject we are looking into - Sezai Karakoç’s stories. In Karakoç’s two published books of stories, alongside this poetic approach he also compared the city and the country and described the country as an atmosphere that keeps the core of one’s self and the city as one that erodes and even eradicates one’s self. Information about city and country phenomenon has been given in the introduction part of our study. In the analysis section the city and country comparisons have been discussed around the environment and the traditional/modern life phenomenon. In the conclusion part the result we identified are evaluated
