Abstract
Camille Paglia Cinsel Kimlikler adlı kitabında doğayı ve doğa ile özdeşleştirdiği kadını hem yaratıcı aynı zamanda da yıkıcı bir güç olarak tanımlar. Paglia’nın bu fikrinin temelinde Apollon/Dionysos dikotomisi yatar. Bu dikotomide Apollon mantığın ve kültürün simgesi iken Dionysos duygunun ve doğanın temsilcisidir. Aslında Apollon/Dionysos, kültür/doğa, erkek/kadın ve mantık/duygu gibi ikilikler evrende uyumlu bir şekilde birbirini tamamlamalıdır. Ancak, Batı dünyasında bu uyum ve denge bir türlü yakalanamamıştır, aksine bunların sürekli bir mücadele içinde oldukları görülmüştür. Dolayısıyla metne dayalı bir yöntemin benimsendiği bu çalışmada Paglia’nın bu fikrinden yola çıkarak Federico Garcia Lorca’nın Yerma adlı oyunundaki kadın/erkek mücadelesi üzerinde durulacak, oyun ile aynı adı taşıyan kadın karakter hem yaratıcı hem de yıkıcı bir güç olarak analiz edilecektir. Yerma, çocuk özlemi dinmeyince tıpkı bir kasırga gibi yıkıcı bir güce dönüşerek evine felaket getirecektir. Böylece Paglia’nın kadın ve erkek arasındaki uyum yokolduğunda, kadının değişerek yıkıcı bir güce dönüşebileceği yolundaki görüşü de bu oyundan örneklerle ortaya konmuş olacaktır.

Abstract
Camille Paglia defines nature and woman which she identifies with nature both as a creative and destructive power in her book, Sexual Personalities. There lies the Apollon/Dionysos dichotomy at the basis of Paglia’s this notion. When Apollon is the symbol of culture and logic in this dichotomy, Dionysos represents the nature and feeling. In fact, in the universe dichotomies like Apollon/Dionysos, culture/nature, man/woman, logic/feeling must complete each other in harmony. However, in the Western world this harmony and balance have never been caught, conversely they have always been seen to be in struggle. Therefore, in this study adopting the text-based method, moving from that notion of Paglia, woman/man struggle will be focused on and the woman protagonist in Federico Garcia Lorca’s play called Yerma carrying the same name will be analysed both as a creative and destructive power. Yerma, turning into a destructive power like a hurricane, will bring catastrophe to her house when her desire to have a child does not cease. Thus, Paglia’s notion that a woman changes and turns into a destructive power when the harmony between woman and man is lost, will be justified by the examples from this play.
