COMMUNICATION BARRIERS ENCOUNTERED IN THE CLASSROOM AND OVERCOMING THOSE BARRIERS

Abstract

Quality of learning and teaching is mostly determined by the messages offered by training environment. The more various and high quality are the messages used in training environment; so the knowledge, emotion and thought interaction takes place among teacher, student, environment and learning content. Educational administration institutions in general and teachers in private take various physical, technological and administrative measures and carry out practices in schools, with the consciousness of contributions which effective communication provides to educational cases. When these measures and practices are considered entirely, it is observed that the approach is generally for keeping communication channels open and rather focused on teaching technology and materials. However, there are many other barriers which can be defined as barrier to efficient and effective communication and are associated with source unit, receiver, message and feedback elements of communication, and overcoming these barriers requires cooperation of every party from school management to teacher and from teacher to families. In this study which was made in compilation model, the subject was expanded towards communication science and related literature was reviewed broadly as well as a discussion frame was attempted to be established by building relations between the findings obtained. In the related literature, it was observed that communication barriers affecting the educational cases were presented as different terms and numbers and that no standard series of barriers in this subject were available, and barriers related to "language and expression, listening and perception, knowledge, empathy, confidence, psychological state and communication channel" variables were studied on.
