Abstract

Due to its strategic importance in the years of the National Struggle, and in the following years regarding the developing events, Konya is one of the places that best reflects the general of Turkey. In this respect, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to Konya after every major social or political event in both the national struggle years and the Republic Period; he kept the pulse of the people in the city with being very close to them. This truth is to be understood better when we bring the political and social events together with Ataturk's coming to Konya. This study consists of two parts. We will go into the first part after a brief evaluation of Konya in the introduction part of the study, in terms of social, economic and strategic in the years 1900-1920. In the first chapter, the place and the importance of Konya will be mentioned regarding National Struggle. Firstly, the activities of the occupant states, Istanbul government and minorities in Konya will be evaluated and the public's approach to developments will be discussed. Then the establishment of the Defence of Rights Society will be dealt with, the reasons for the late participation in the National Struggle will be questioned and after focusing on the difficulties encountered during the establishment of the national organizations, the precise joining process of Konya in the national struggles will be dealt with. In the second part, the thirteen visits of Ataturk, which are during the period starting from August 3, 1920, when Atatürk first came to Konya, to November 20, 1937, the last one will be evaluated. After emphasizing that it is one of the provinces most visited by Ataturk, who visited thirteen times, during his nationwide tour, each visit will be addressed separately by trying to put forward the importance of it for Konya and Turkey.
