Abstract

The sultans and statesmen of the Ottoman Empire who produced several art pieces in different forms of art had supported and protected craftsmen and the artists of the age. This situation induced to raise many great poets and to be written new literary works in classical Turkish literature. According to researchers, Lami’î Çelebi from Bursa (1472 - 1533) who has 46 literary pieces in the form of verse and prose, and has also lots of mesnevi which are enough to compose two hamse, is counted among those names. Some of the works of Lâmi’î known as “Câmî-i Rûm” because of his translations of Câmî, are the books from the Persian and Arabian literatures. They were translated with the encouragement of statesmen of the period. Vâmık u Azrâ, which was assumed as an Arabic translation by Sehl B. Harun Destemeysânî (B. 830), later as a Persian translation by Unsûrî (B. 1040), is one of them. Lâmi’î who writes his text with the will of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman and the support of the Kazasker Kadirî Çelebi, had not make an exact translation of the Persian Vâmık u Azrâ of Unsurî, had written it by adding the local components, cultural and material environment of his era. Hence, it is possible to claim that he had produced an authentic story by localizing a narration. In this article, local components in the mesnevi of Vâmık u Azrâ and the methods of rewriting, abstraction, exemplification in the text had been examined.
