Abstract

Folk songs reflect Turkish people's happiness, enthusiasm, sadness in terms of physical and human based factors. Folk songs express Turkish people's identity like a mirror. They are important because of carriying living feature of the society. Folk songs in music science not only being open to research pitch, melodical features, technical informance of the instruments ,technical structure of the works but also a scientific branch whıch can be investigated. In addition to this many factors in folk songs give information of the geographies culture. Folk songs which go back to centuries ago have importance as they can be in poetry form played by turkish instrument bağlama. This research which investigates folk songs in desciptive way, either in TRT repertoire and folk song album or investigating folk songs told by the people in Amasya region. The steps of the research is classification of the folk songs, determining the contents and interpreting symbol and patterms of the pictures. Cultural structure of Amasya is shaped by its folk songs. Amasya folk songs, as it has been in middle East cities, played with stringed instrument ''bağlama''. This tradition dates back to billion years ago seen in Middle Asia culture. Folk songs symbolizes Anatolian people's pure feelings and thoughts. Although folk songs refer to the all people living in the society. Amasya folk songs used in the study were obtained from the through a review of related literature and also through interviews with Turkish folk music authorities. The collected folk songs were classified based on musical elements and the topics expressed in their lyrics. According to the findings of the study, it was concluded that the literary and musical elements of the folk songs of Amasya province had certain characteristics that could accurately narrate its own culture and suggestions were presented based on these conclusions.
