AN EVALUATION OF THE BIOLOGY QUESTIONS ASKED IN THE EXAMS ADMINISTERED BY THE STUDENT SELECTION AND PLACEMENT CENTER BETWEEN THE YEARS 2000-2018 2000-2018 YILLARI ARASINDA ÖSYM SINAVINDA SORULAN BİYOLOJİ SORULARININ DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ
Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) has introduced various changes in its test system for the admission to higher education since it was established. The aim of this study was to examine the process of these changes between the years 2000-2018 and the importance of biology lesson in this period. The study also aimed to analyze the net scores of the students for the biology questions asked in the exams administered by ÖSYM between those years and evaluate the success of the students. The study showed that biology was a lesson in which students of science at high schools became the least successful. The number of the net scores of the students in biology tests ranged between 0.63 and 12.83; however, the amount of the net scores of the students has significantly increased since 2000. As a result, in order to achieve a more consistent and effective improvement in biology tests, education system should be handled thoroughly and comprehensive analyzes should be carried out rather than to make changes in the exam system. In particular, students should be provided student-based education and their needs should be met. Furthermore, institutional improvements should also be provided in the light of giving satisfactory answers for these questions: i) How is a better academic success achieved? and ii) How is perfectly effective biology education is given?
