Abstract

The classical guitar repertoire has a wide place of arrangements. During the Romantic Era, which was one of the golden ages of classical guitar history, the approaches of arrangements started to develop and reached its peak moment with the unique works of Andreas Segovia (1893-1987). These works also encouraged the composers to get to know this instrument better and to turn their interests to the guitar. Another contribution of these works is that the classical guitar performers have had the opportunity to interpret and practice the compositions of many composers who have not written any pieces for this instrument. Gomidas Vartabed is one of these composers. It is among the newest composers included in this repertoire his other limited classical guitar arrangements that took place in the 21st century. In this study, the life and creativity portrait of Gomidas Vartabed is examined and its musical works are presented. The woks called Gakavi Yerkı and Yerginkn Ambel A were analyzed by the composer and the arranger's approaches. The links between the original scores and the classical guitar arrangements are discussed.
