Abstract

Iran is one of the countries with the richest oil and natural gas reserves in the world. Ranking third after Venezuela and Saudi Arabia in oil reserves, Iran is the sixth largest oil producer and seventh largest oil exporter in the world. As for natural gas reserves, Iran ranking second after Russia is the world’s third largest natural gas producer and ranks twenty third in natural gas export. Although Iran is among the top countries in oil and natural gas reserves, its production is at a lower level due to reasons such as the lack of funding, investment and technology. However, the country is unable to make economic gains by exporting its products sufficiently because of the domestic market’s high demand for natural gas and oil. Thus, turning to nuclear energy, Iran continues its searches in this area. Iran making nuclear energy production its government policy aims to increase its national income by increasing the export of oil and natural gas resources.
