Abstract

Purpose of the research; the museums which are important centers for the formation of the cultural heritage consciousness and the contribution of the art education institutions to the development of the artistic skills in the research and application activities of the students studying in the postgraduate programs of the art education institutions. Erzurum Ethnography Museum and collection of Erzurum Ethnography Museum in this museum was determined as a sample for research. The accumulation of the Erzurum Ethnography Museum, which is one of the most comprehensive museums of the region, has been the subject of a study of the new functional role with the evolving and changing education as well as the multi-faceted learning and its effectiveness in the uncovering and development of artistic skills not provided in the classroom environment. In the study, it was researched whether there was a significant difference in the development of artistic talents between the experimental group in which the visual imagination and designing model was applied in the design process and the control groups in which the subject-centered design process was applied. In the practice, while the lessons were given in the experiment group and Erzurum Ethnography, the control group was given simultaneous training in the classroom environment. The study group was trained in the "Costume Design" course related to the 2016/2017 education and training program and the Master of Fine Arts Institute of Ataturk University. The first design and final design studies of the students who participated in the groups formed by the unselected sampling method were evaluated according to the "Basic Design Principles" and the results of the research on the obtained findings were reached. Findings from the research results show that there is no significant difference in the initial design samples of both groups, that is, they are similar, it is determined that there is a significant difference between the initial design and final design results of experiment and control group and the final tests of experiment and control group. However, as a result of the hands-on training conducted by the experimental group in the museum, it was observed that the artistic skills that students could not or did not develop in the classroom environment could be effectively used in the museum environment.
