Abstract

Organic products are preferred due to their contribution to human health and environment, and conscious consumers consider it as a big market potential. Diversity, standard and design of the products along with consumers' wishes, the benefits expected from the product and the purchasing behavior come to the fore in the formation of this potential. The design of organic products depends on the needs of consumers. This situation is different in every market. In this study, the problems encountered in organic production and ways of development were discussed. In this context, written sources, statistical data and survey results made by the researchers were utilized. It was discovered in this study that certification procedures, which are considered as the main source and a must of organic production, contained high costs and this prevented the direct presentation of the organic products inside and outside the country. On the other hand, adherence to traditional methods, low number of certified seeds, insufficiency of control and inspection, absence of reliable database, low level of education, residual problem, insufficient producer organization, marketing problems, low number of certified seeds, high input costs and insufficient publicity emerge as the structural problems of the domestic market. In order to overcome these structural problems, it is necessary to educate and raise the awareness of farmers about environment and health, to develop organic agricultural activities in accordance with domestic and foreign demands, to prefer products with high added value, to decrease the VAT in organic products, to increase food security, to reduce organic farming certificate fees and to develop services for control and inspection.
