Abstract

The struggle to make faith visible had been present, since ceremonies of magic during pre-historic times. This struggle has turned into a spiritual necessity along with religion. Therefore, in order to increase the influence of religion on society, “the gods” achieved a visible reality through art. The artists as the worldy representatives of the Creator’s act of creation have utilized the religious content, as tools to make art. This tradition of relationship, which laid the foundations of European art, has shown a parallel development along with the effect of religion on society. This change is clearly visible when European art is chronologically analyzed. The objective of this article is to analyze the relationship between religion and art, through multiple angles and to explore the exhibition “On The Road” by taking into account, St. Francis Assisi becoming a theme of art; thus to generate questions that will yield to different perspectives.
