Abstract

The records of Ottoman sharia court is one of the most important references for the history of the Ottoman Empire. Because the records cover valuable information about the political, administrative, military, economic, legal, religious, and cultural issues of their region. The sharia court records, which reflect the legal relations between the people, who lived in the center and the provinces, and the Ottoman State, is the major reference for social and local history researchers. Since sharia court records has important information about its period and place, the introduction of sharia court records and indexing them are of great importance, especially in terms of local history. The introduction and indexing of the Harput District's sharia court records, numbered 350 and dated 1662-1663, have been studied in this article to provide a small contribution to the mentioned studies.
