Abstract

One of the risks faced by professionals working in the field of social work during professional work is the violence that can be directed against them by their clients or clients' relatives. In this study, it is aimed to examine the situations of the violence of the professionals working in the field of social work in Turkey and to contribute to the solution of the problems based on the violence. The study, using the survey research model from the quantitative research design, was carried out with 101 professionals. Violence Experience Questionnaire was used as data collection tool. A large majority (81.2%) of respondents reported experiencing a type of violence (verbal, psychological, physical or sexual). Findings of the study show that the professionals involved in the research are at risk from violence and although they know what they can do when they are subjected to violence, they do not feel safe. That professionals working with vulnerable and at-risk groups are supported by their institutions in the process of work, assessing the risks of violence, taking the necessary precautions are important to establishing healthy working conditions and providing a more effective service to the client.
