Abstract

Early marriage or, in other words, child marriage, a global problem that goes beyond cultures, religions and ethnic identities, means the merger of two persons, at least one of the parties under the age of eighteen, with an official, religious or traditional marriage contract. Girls who marry at an early age in the world make up the majority of child spouses and these early marriages have more serious effects on girls' lives. These marriages are considered one of the main human rights violations faced by women and girls. These marriages in childhood are considered an abuse and mean violation of personal liberties, rights regarding education and reproductive health, and the right to non-violence. Early marriages also emerge as an obstacle to social development and development. In this article, it is dealt with issues like the legal situation related to early marriages in Turkey and forced marriages, the effects against women, the causes of early marriage that is a universal problem.
