Abstract

Purpose of this study is to analyze the use of instrument by preschool teachers, who work in Sivas province, during musical activities set out in the education program. This is a field study based on survey model. In order to establish the theoretical foundation of the subject, a literature review was conducted first. Besides, a survey was applied to preschool teachers in the sample group, in order to identify the status of preschool teachers’ use of instrument in musical activities. Population of the research consists of 124 preschool teachers who work at the nursery classes within primary schools that are affiliated to Sivas Provincial Directorate for National Education; and sample of the study consists of 80 preschool teachers who were contacted among this group. The study concluded that majority of the preschool teachers conduct rhythm activities mostly with body percussion; use visual and audio tools for the activities of listening & distinguishing sounds and singing; mostly teach songs by ear; and that they were not trained in the field of Orff techniques back in university and therefore cannot utilize these techniques in their lessons.
