Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) strategy on the applications of university students in Basic Design course and its usability in the course. PBL is a learning strategy in which students are given a problem that they do not have sufficient knowledge to solve. The aim of art education is to discover ways to reach the solution of a problem. In the study, the Basic Design lesson and the Problem Based Learning strategy were mentioned, taking into account the peculiar characteristics of PBL, information about the learning steps, the role of the teacher and the evaluation elements were given, and the data obtained during the study process were evaluated. The research was carried out in 2018-2019 academic year, Kastamonu University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Graphic Design Department, 1st year students, TSE 102 Basic Design Course, II. Limited to three-dimensional applications carried out within the Term Final Project. The research is a descriptive study, and the sources were examined with a literature review. In the end, students learned the excitement of creating a product by doing group work with a problem-based learning strategy in a workshop environment. The applicability of this teaching strategy has been observed in the basic design course, which attracts the student's attention alongside the traditional approaches.
