Abstract

The film is about the baby and its developmental crises, who suddenly entered the life of an intellectual couple. Kate and Matt move into an old house in a town in New York. They find the enchanted room hidden behind the wall in the house. The room gives them everything what they want.. Kate asks for a baby from the room, and a baby boy named Shane occurs. Everything that the room gives turns to ash when taken out of the house. When baby Shane goes out of the house for the first time, he suddenly grows into a school-age child, a second time a teenager, and a third time he grows old and turns to ash. In this study, the results of baby Shane's rapid leaps between personality development and developmental stages are examined in the context of object relations, self psychology, separation-individuation and psychosexual development theories. As a result, the Shane baby bypassed the anal and phallic stages according to the psychosexual development theory and experienced the oral, latent and adolescent stages. According to the self psychology theory, he could not develop a mother-infant relationship to complete the self-integrity. Based on Mahler's views, it has come directly from the autistic period to the period of separation-individuation. s a result, the individual who progresses without gaining the skills and abilities specific to his developmental stages, has many pathological problems in himself. Existing pathologies manifest themselves as behavioral problems in adult life.
