Abstract

In the Orkhon inscriptions one of the prominent topics is the dichotomy of sky-earth water that is a part of Turk cosmogonic system.The cosmogonical myths called cosmogony reveals an archetypal role of the genesis and mentions about the birth. In these myths, there is the birth of the universe and the cosmic elements and the transition from the chaos to the cosmos. The expressions, changing from societies to societies, are remarkable for presenting cultural codes. Te?ri, kök-yir sub (sky-earth water), and Umay mentioned in the Orkhon inscriptions reflects the cosmogonic idea in Turk’s memories. Dichotomy means being in harmony with being represented as contrasts. Dichotomy, an important part of Turk cosmogonic system, is one of dominant elements that created Turk’s universe design. In the inscriptions, the value that kök (sky) and yir~yir repeated continuously earns in the context is the harmony/togetherness. That firstly the blue sky, then the brown earth was created and the sky and earth water in the social chaos areas have function to help and solve problem creates the outlook of dichotomistic system.
