Abstract

It’s known that in children’s literature, the moral messages are conveyed to child readers over certain characters, as a way of seeing the importance of developing the main characters in the stories, in terms of their characteristics. In that respect, characters who appeal to the child carrying some cross-sectional samples from them, amusing and making them laugh, making them cry. The main characters take the readers to mysterious journeys, so that the characters should be developed painstakingly in terms of their design and qualities. This is one of the factors which complicates or eases the child reader to identify with the characters and set out for an adventurous reading. In this research, the authors analyze the main characters of Hızlı Tosbi by İsmet Bertan, Vanilya Kokulu Mektuplar by Sevim Ak and Beyaz Ayakkabılılar by Görkem Yeltan, in terms of being developed, undeveloped, dynamic and static. The aim of this study is, on one hand, to analyze Hızlı Tosbi and Vanilya Kokulu Mektuplar and, on the other hand, Beyaz Ayakkabılılar, which contains fantastic and no fantastic patterns respectively. In this study, the survey analysis is used as a means of qualitative research method: The novels are analyzed, the main characters are identified, and then they are analyzed in terms of their characters. It is determined that the main characters in Hızlı Tosbi and Vanilya Kokulu Mektuplar show developed and dynamic qualities. On the other hand the main character in Beyaz Ayakkabılılar reflects developed and static characteristics. As a result, the child readers enjoy reading Hızlı Tosbi and Vanilya Kokulu Mektuplar when the novels’ characters and themes are taken into consideration.
